Practice and GAME TIME!

Hi Football Family!!!

I'm happy to be home (sorta...just about over my Mexico withdrawals) and so excited for GAME TIME tomorrow!

A couple of things:

PRACTICE TONIGHT is at 5 PM.

Practice will end about 10 minutes early at 6:50 pm so people can make it the Bountiful High Homecoming Game against Woods Cross.  This is a fun event that is taking place at 7 PM at Bountiful High.   A bunch of us are going so hopefully more of you can join us!!  

GAME TIME TOMORROW

It's GAME TIME!  Game starts at 10:30 AM.  

Boys need to be there at 9:30 AM.  

Venue:  Centerville Family Park 1335 North 400 West Centerville

Wear: ALL BLACK. Black jersey, Black pants, Black SOCKS

Please make sure the boys have a JUG FULL of Gatorade!!!

Post Game Lunch:  We will have lunch post game at Pizza Pie Cafe in Bountiful (optional).

GAME DAY LANYARDS

Kim Merriam has graciously volunteered to make our game day lanyards this year!  Thank you, Kim!  For those of you new to our team, these very fashionable necklaces will feature your son's photo on one side and the game schedule and roster on the other side.  They are so handy throughout the season!  We should hopefully have them ready by Saturday's game.

I am definitely getting excited for our pre-season party on Friday night and upcoming game against Brighton on Saturday!

As we are providing hot dogs and hamburgers, we need an estimate of who is attending.  Boys, parents, and siblings are all invited. As we are having a guest speaker as we have in previous years it really is beneficial for parents to hear his talk as well.  The speaker this year is different from the one we have had in previous years but will be just as awesome!  As a thank you gift, we will be giving him a football for each boy to sign so that will go around most likely during Friday's practice.

SOCKS

I picked up socks today.  If you haven't paid me the $5 yet for them, please do so as soon as you can.

HELMET STICKERS

This is an item I overlooked this year when I estimated expenses.  In past years one of our moms (who owns a vinyl sticker business) created helmet stickers of their numbers for our boys at no charge.  However, that family is no longer with our team.  We went ahead and ordered them as she is only charging us $2 per boy.  The numbers on the helmets are extremely helpful during games just to keep track of our boys as the helmet numbers are often more visible than the jerseys on the line. 

My apologies for not outlining this expense initially.  If you can just give me $2 at your earliest convenience, that would be fantastic!  

Some of you paid me $20 for the embroidery and the socks and I have yet to give you $5 in change.  Please talk to me directly if you would just like to receive $3 back in change.  

I will be adhering the stickers on each boy's helmet during Thursday's practice.

SportsFilmz DVDs / Need help filming games

Good evening, Team...

Just wanted to update you regarding the SportsFilmz DVDs.

SportsFilmz has shut down their filming services for youth teams.   So, unfortunately we will not have any professional filming services for our games this season.  

In addition to SportsFilmz being a great keepsake for us, they have been extremely valuable in analyzing games to determine areas to improve upon.  

Is there anyone that would be willing to film some of our games or perhaps rotate and take turns?

PRACTICE THIS WEEK:

With school starting, practice next week will be TUESDAY, THURSDAY, FRIDAY from 6PM - 8PM at Washington Elementary.

EMBROIDERY:

Only 3 families have paid me for the embroidery of the jerseys.  Cassy Tingey has already dropped them off at UCI and will need to make payment upon pick-up in a few days.  The cost is $10 for both jerseys.  Please please please pay ASAP.  You can give me / Jamie cash or write out a check to Cassy Tingey.  Thank you.

SOCKS:

We have gotten a fantastic deal with Big 5 on socks.  They are giving us a deal for $5 per PAIR!  So you will receive a pair of black socks and a pair of red socks for $5.  I have ordered these already and they will come in a few days.  Please pay me $5 ASAP.  Cash is great.  

FUNDRAISER:

I have not received ANY donations for our basket fundraiser other than what my family is providing (Bees Tickets and SDRC passes).  The luncheon is THIS SATURDAY!!!   Every team needs to provide a basket for auction. Remember our theme is "LET's GO OUT" so any type of items or gift cards for restaurants, theme parks, etc. would be great.  

CLOTHING DRIVE:

In addition to our basket, the league is also holding a CLOTHING DRIVE for additional fundraising.  Clean out those closets and bring your unwanted clothing and shoes to the luncheon!  

BLACK PANTS:

How is everyone doing with this?  Please make sure to secure these by Friday.  

JERSEY NUMBERS & SIZES:

As I mentioned above, the jerseys have been delivered to UCI.  Coach Dave and I spent some time yesterday sorting through the sizes and assigning numbers.  Unfortunately, the league just gave us a bag of jerseys without really taking into account any of our number requests.  To stay as true to the numbering of positions on the field, we had to swap sizes around a bit but tried to ensure that the jersey will still be a good fit for your boy.  Even with this changing around, not all of the numbers are authentic to each position and a couple of jerseys will need to be altered.  This is an issue every single season; however,  I have a fantastic seamstress in Bountiful who is inexpensive and fast.

Her name is Darcy Jacobs:  801-635-6641.   Please contact her should your son's jersey need adjustments.  Attached are the assigned jersey numbers and corresponding sizes.

Need Help Scouting and Filming Opponent Games

Hi there, All...

One more thing (for today)...

Coach has asked for help on scouting and filming opponent games throughout the season.  This is such a helpful tool for our team in analyzing their plays prior to our games with them.  

Paula Riordan has done it for us in the past but it's just too overwhelming and time consuming for one family to shoulder it the entire season.  

If you can help out with this, we would very much appreciate it.

TEAM CHANGES:

Regretfully, Isaac Kime will no longer play football as he has decided to dedicate his time to basketball.  We wish him the best.

However, we are SO EXCITED to welcome Keoki Naeole!!  WELCOME Naeole Family!!

MAKE-UP PRACTICE ON SATURDAY 8/15:

Due to the rainstorm on Tuesday, there will be a MAKE-UP PRACTICE this Saturday from 7:30 AM - 9:30 AM.  Please let us know if your son needs a ride.  Remember practice tonight and tomorrow from 6 - 8 PM as well. 

JERSEYS:

We will be picking up our jerseys on Saturday.  Please click on the roster link below to double check your son's jersey size which I got from them yesterday after practice.  (Still need to confirm Jake Kelson's size of YXL which we will do tonight at practice).  The sizes need to be turned in by Friday morning (tomorrow) so if I don't hear from you, the size on this spreadsheet is what will be turned in.

JERSEY EMBROIDERY:

Cassy Tingey has been kind enough to spearhead the embroidery for the jerseys.  She has been able to bring the cost down slightly from last year.  Embroidery for both jerseys is $10 (was $11 last year).   THANK YOU, CASSY! 

I will start collecting the money for this ASAP.  You can either bring me cash $10 or write out a check to:  "CASSY TINGEY".  Please try to get this to me as soon as possible.  

Our plan is to deliver the jerseys to UCI on Monday and we will hopefully get them back by the end of next week at the latest.  

BLACK PANTS:

To keep things simple, instead of going through one supplier, it seems more cost-effective for each family to get their own black football pants.  Please make sure the pads are already sewn in.

Scoreboard Sports at Colonial Square in Bountiful has them right now for 1/2 off.  So you can get them for around $15 which is a great deal.  I was told this sale goes until the end of the week so you may want to head over there pretty soon. There is limited supply so hurry!

Sports Authority in Farmington Station also has them (Rydell and Nike brand) but their prices range from $35 - $40.  I do however have a Sports Authority coupon for 15% off your entire purchase that I can pass out tonight at practice.  

Amazon.Com has several different pants available from a variety of suppliers and brands and the prices range from $15 - $40.  

Please plan to obtaining your black pants by FRIDAY, 8/21.  So please take this date into consideration if you're ordering them online.  My goal is to take team and individual photos Friday evening (8/21) during practice (thank you Gary Goodwin for you photography skills once again!).  

BLACK SOCKS:

Each boy also needs to have black knee high socks by FRIDAY, 8/21.  

RED SOCKS:

We will go through one supplier for these as there so many shades of red.  I'm still trying to get the best prices possible.  Stay tuned for more info.  

BRAVES LUNCHEON, BASKET FUNDRAISER SATURDAY 8/22:

Each team in the league is responsible for providing a basket for auction for the Braves Luncheon on Saturday 8/22.  Each basket value should be around $350. 

Our team's basket theme year is:  "LET's GO OUT".   So we will fill it with gift cards and items that have to do with going out.  For example, Jamie's company is donating a pair of Bees tickets - great seats behind home plate.  I'll be donating some South Davis Recreation passes to use for the ice skating rink and / or pools. 

Other ideas are restaurant cards, movie cards, shopping cards, Boondocks, Cherry Hill, Lagoon passes, gas cards, Swig / Fizz gift certificates, museum passes, zoo passes, trail maps, books on what to do around here, perhaps even camera stuff (selfie stick?  haha) so the fun memories can be captured.

August 22:  Saturday:  Braves Luncheon and Silent Auction Fundraiser.  I am putting together a basket for the silent auction.  The families of each team donate items.  WE NEED IDEAS for our basket theme and what you fine families would be willing to donate.   Our theme may be based on what types of stuff we can gather.  (Last year we did a fitness theme).  This year...maybe movie night?  college theme?  game night?  food / restaurant?  

August 28:  Friday night after practice:  Season Kick-Off Party and Potluck at the Harpers

August 29:  Saturday:  Pre-Season Game

September 5:  First Game

UPCOMING EXPENSES / SUGGESTED FAMILY CONTRIBUTIONS:

This isn't everyone's favorite subject but my hope is to estimate additional expenses for the season now so there are no huge surprises moving forward.

BLACK PANTS:  Our team purchases an additional pair of game pants.  They are BLACK and padded.  I am currently talking to a supplier to get an estimate on a team buy.  Boys from last year may be able to wear their pants again but if they have outgrown them, please let me know and perhaps another boy may be able to use them.  Prices range $20 - $50 pair depending

SOCKS:  Our team will need a pair of long black socks, a pair of long red socks, and a pair of pink sock for October (Breast Cancer Awareness month - several of the boys' families have been affected with this so it hits home for sure).  Again, I am talking to the supplier for these and we want to make sure the red and the pink socks match so we will buy all of these together at once.  $10 - $15 pair

JERSEY EMBROIDERY:   Last year we used the Utah Department of Corrections for our jersey embroidery at only $11 per pair of jerseys.  I have a call into them to confirm this is still the price this year. 

SPORTZ FILMZ:  Our team usually purchases the game DVDs through Sportz Filmz.  We need 10 families to purchase them in order to take advantage of the bulk discount.  It certainly is an investment but also a valuable keepsake so that we can all actually ENJOY the games rather than trying to film them ourselves.  They are also excellent tools at game analysis for our coaches as well as for your boys to see what can be improved upon in subsequent games.  The DVDs are approximately $90 - $120 for the entire season

GAME DAY SNACKS:  Each family rotates in bringing game day snacks for the boys.  One family provides a half-time snack (usually oranges and Gatorade) and another family provides a post-game treat.  I will send around the schedule before the first game so that you can sign up for your dates.

FUNDRAISER SILENT AUCTION BASKET / POTLUCK:  This is the league fundraiser that will take place on August 22.  We need to put together a basket of goodies that will be auctioned off.  Any contribution you can make for the basket will be most appreciated.  

We will also be receiving food assignments for this event so please stay tuned for that.  

END OF SEASON BANQUET / COACH GIFTS: The end of season party is the other event where contributions / donations towards coach gifts are most appreciated.  We try to keep the party expense to a minimum.  Last year, we held the banquet at Pizza Pie Cafe and it worked out really well.

We love you, Drew!!

When we found out about Drew Weyburn's ATV accident on August 8 in St. George, the boys were eager to visit him at his home when he returned on Sunday.  Even though it was late, Drew's teammates and coaches had to see him to show their support and friendship.  Heal quickly, Drew!

Week of 9/29 - Breast Cancer Awareness

Good evening Football Family!!!

Just a few items this week...

PRACTICE SCHEDULE:

Practices are now Tu, Thurs:  5:30 PM - 7:30 PM and Friday 5:15 PM - 7:00 PM ish

OCTOBER IS BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH:

As we have had 2 mothers on our team affected with breast cancer over the last few years, this disease hits very close to home with our boys.  Marina Mancilla is once again donating the pink ribbon vinyls to put on the boys' helmets (should have them by Thursday) and we have pink breast cancer football socks (also being donated) that will hopefully arrive on Friday.  

We are asking all of the families to wear PINK or any type of pink ribbon wear to honor the kick-off of this month on Saturday's game.

Another big congrats to our boys for another stellar win on Saturday!

This Saturday is our first home game at Millcreek Jr. High.   For every home game, every team is to provide parent volunteers to help with concessions, apparel sales, field set-up / take down, etc.  

Following are our assignments.  Please look these over and let me know what date you would like to help out.

FOOTBALL THIS WEEK!

Hi there Football Family!!!

What a fantastic pre-season game!  It was so nice to see everyone at the game.  

Please read this e-mail carefully as there is a LOT of important information.

PRACTICES ARE NOW:  Tuesdays and Thursdays 6 - 8 PM and Fridays 5:30 pm - 7:30 PM.

PICTURE DAY on TUESDAY, AUGUST 26th, 6 PM.

• Wear black jerseys and black pants and long black socks.  Gary Goodwin has offered to photograph the boys once again.  Thank you, Gary!!

KICK-OFF PARTY on FRIDAY, AUGUST 29th, 8:15 PM.

• Kick-Off Party and BBQ at the Harper Home at 8:15 PM.  Ben Kjar, our motivational speaker from 2012 will join us to once again talk to the boys.  

• Harper Home address:  1658 South 1820 West in Woods Cross.  Ivory Homes community off of Redwood Road.  

• Please bring favorite appetizer, salad, or dessert to share.

GAME TIME on SATURDAY, AUGUST 30th, versus Corner Canyon 

• GAME START:  10:30 AM,  

• Please arrive by 9:30 AM

• VENUE:  CYPRUS:  Magna Copper Park:  8941 W 2600 S, Magna UT 84044 (NOT Park City which we were told previously)

• We will meet at the K-Mart Parking Lot at 8:30 AM to decorate cars and caravan.

• WEAR: BLACK JERSEYS, BLACK PANTS, LONG BLACK SOCKS

• Bring jug full of ICE COLD GATORADE

It's GAME TIME!

WHAT TIME IS IT??? IT'S GAME TIME!!!!

Some reminders for tomorrow's pre-season game against Woods Cross...

• BOYS MUST BE THERE AT 1:30 PM

• GAME STARTS at 2:30 PM

• WEAR BLACK JERSEY, BLACK PANTS, LONG BLACK SOCKS

• WOODS CROSS HIGH

• STADIUM FIELD  ( FIELD #3:  TURF)

• BRING A JUG FULL OF ICE COLD GATORADE*

*FYI, I know Gatorade can be pricey so I was happy to find a concentrated powder of it at Costco for about $10.  It makes 36 quarts so it should last a while.  Brando has been throwing it into his water jugs this week and he really likes it.  

Since this is a fundraiser, there is an ADMISSION COST for spectators (BRING CASH):

Adults:  $3

Senior Citizens and Students (5 - 18 years):  $2

Children 4 and Under:  FREE

HALF-TIME SNACKS:  Merriams

POST-GAME TREAT:  Berroterans

I'm volunteering bright and early Sat morning at The Color Run in SLC so I won't be able to field any calls or texts until after about 11:00 am.
