Good evening, Football Family!

What a crazy rainstorm this evening!  Thank you for picking up your son so quickly and a
big thank you to the parents who helped give rides tonight.

I want to start off by welcoming MASON MEEKS into our football family!! Woot Woot!
We are excited to have him join our team!

JERSEYS AND NUMBERS
We have jerseys and I plan to drop them off to the prison by Thursday morning at the latest.
Dave and I tried to get the requested sizes and numbers but unfortunately a lot of of the numbers
were not available AT ALL.

Go to the blog roster document at the top of this blog to see your son's number.

JERSEY EMBROIDERY
Thank you to the parents who have paid me their $11 for the embroidery.  If you have not done so,
you may write a check to me:  Karmel Harper or I can take cash.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT SCRIMMAGE (8/13/14)
We are scrimmaging the A team Wednesday night.  PLEASE WEAR YOUR BLACK JERSEYS.

BLACK PANTS
I sent a text to the parents that still need black pants this afternoon.   I was not aware that the pants that Scoreboard Sports was going to order for us came in adult sizes only.  Paula Riordan went there today and was able to get 2 pairs in youth sizes that were actually in-store.  Each cost under $20.  Scoreboard will still honor a team discount for us.  Ask for Nicholas Jennings and mention Bountiful Bantam Gray and you can give them my name.

EMBROIDERY UPDATE - MASSIVE PRICE REDUCTION!

Hello there, Football Family!!

As some of you know, we decided late this afternoon to go a different direction with the jersey embroidery.  We will be using the Department of Corrections and they can do BOTH SETS OF JERSEYS for only $11!

Some of you already paid me tonight but for those of you who have not, I will be collecting the money tomorrow night as well.  According to Max Freestone we hope to get the jerseys tomorrow night and then off to the prison by Wednesday.   I would love your payment by tomorrow night at the latest. We hope to get them back by early next week.

You can make out checks to me:  Karmel Harper.

BLACK PANTS DEAL AT SCOREBOARD SPORTS.

Hello Football Family,

Here is an update regarding the black football pants...

Scoreboard Sports is giving us a special team rate.  These pants retail for $40 but each player can get them for $30 out the door.

We need a minimum of 6 to get this deal.

Based on my records, about 10 players still need black pants.

I met with Nick (Group Sales Manager) and he set up an account for us already for this order.  I'm not collecting any money for this.

So you can go to Scoreboard Sports (Colonial Square by Orange Leaf) and ask to order the football pants for BOUNTIFUL BANTAM GREY and pay directly.  Order what size you need.

PLEASE TRY TO GO IN TODAY OR TOMORROW SO THAT THE ENTIRE ORDER CAN BE PLACED ASAP.  It will take about 5 days to arrive.

PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP IF YOU ARE ORDERING FROM HERE SO WE KNOW WE MEET THE MINIMUM OF 6 AND SO I KNOW THE ORDER IS COMPLETE FOR THEM TO PLACE.

WEEK OF 8/11/14: EMBROIDERY, PANTS, DVDs, WEIGH IN, FAMILY LUNCHEON....

Hello there, Football Family!!

There is SOOO MUCH going on this week in our football world so please read this carefully so you don't miss anything:

JERSEY EMBROIDERY:

-Robynn Goodwin (Sam's mom) is heading up the  jersey embroidery.  We looked at other vendors but Robynn's neighbor is the best choice as she is fast, reliable, excellent, and local.  Provided we can secure our jerseys from Max Freestone mid-week, we hope to get them returned to us and in your son's possession by end of the week.

-Please provide $26 (total for both jerseys) to Robynn TOMORROW (Monday, 8/11). Checks made payable to "Stitch on Stuff".

SPORTZ FILMZ DVDs:

-Please let me know either way (YES OR NO) if you will be purchasing the Sportz Filmz DVDs.  We are hoping for a commitment from 15 families to get the reduced price.  I need to order them by 8/15,

BLACK PANTS:

-Kim Merriam has talked with Scoreboard Sports (Colonial Square) about purchasing black pants in bulk.  For those of you still needing them, I will hopefully get information out to you Monday (tomorrow) when their group sales contact is in.
WEIGH-INS (Thursday):

-Weigh ins are THIS WEEK!  Thursday, 8/14.  Your son needs to be at the location by 5:30 pm.  If he misses weigh-in, he cannot play in the first game.  Location is still TBD.  NO PRACTICE TONIGHT.
BRAVE FAMILY PICNIC:

-The Brave Family Picnic is this Saturday at noon at West Bountiful Park which is off Pages Lane just west of the I-15.

Our team has been assigned the following items to bring:
  • 5 Gal. Gott w/ 20 lbs. ice
  • 4: Fruit (besides watermelon) service for 12

FUNDRAISER BASKET:

I need to deliver our team basket to Max on Thursday (8/14) after weigh-ins.

TEAM PARTY (August 29th):

Ben Kjar, who spoke to our team two years ago, is an athlete, coach and amazing motivational speaker.  He is the gentleman that brought the "I AM THE VOICE" mantra and tradition to our games.   He will be joining us once again on Friday evening, August 29th at 8:15 pm where we will have our TEAM KICK-OFF PARTY and BBQ.  It will be a potluck at the Harper Home.   More information about that will be provided in the next week.

I know that there is a lot of information to remember and that the additional costs to get the season rolling add up.  I realize that budgets are tight.  We are working on doing a team fundraiser to help offset some of these costs.  We will get information out to you about that as soon as we can.

Please refer to the UPCOMING DATES column on the right to remind you of due dates.

Season DVDs: Sportz Filmz

Hello again, Football Family,

I know I"m bombarding you with e-mails right now so thank you so much for taking the time to read all of them.
We will be using Sportz Filmz again this year to film our team's awesome games.  For those of you who aren't familiar with Sportz Filmz, they are a company that we have used in the past to film our games from a tower on the sidelines and then puts the film onto DVD that we typically have by the Monday after the game. The film looks amazing (is filmed in HD) and allows us to enjoy the game without having to worry about bringing and and using our own cameras. Additionally, our coaches uses the film to help improve our team by examining the film and working on areas that need improvement as well as developing new plays and strategies as the season progresses.  It truly is a valuable resource to continue our championship legacy as well as a wonderful keepsake.
We need at least 10 people on the team to participate. The more people we have participating, the less each of us have to pay. Furthermore, if we can secure local businesses or even donations from grandparents, this will offset the cost significantly.
Sportz Filmz did raise their prices this year so the 2014 cost breakdowns are as follows:
  • If we get 10-14 people the cost will be $11.50 a game or $115 plus tax, ($122.88 all in) for each player.  That is for one pre-season game and 9 regular season games for a total of 10 games*.
  • If we get 15-19 people it will be $8.50 plus tax, ($90.82 all in) for each player.
*Please note that this only includes the pre-season and regular season games.  When we make the playoffs and the championship game (AGAIN), we will place another order with Sportz Filmz.
If we can get a few businesses to help sponsor this, their logo can be placed on the DVD cover.  Businesses typically will sponsor between the $100 - $500 range.  If you are a business owner or work for a company who may be interested in sponsoring this, please let me know.  Their generosity will greatly reduce these prices for us.
Please let me know your interest by Monday so that I can start working on placing the order which must be placed by Friday August 15th.
Thanks for all your support of our awesome boys.
As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

BLACK PANTS

Hello Football Family!

As we have mentioned, we would like every boy to have BLACK football pants for this season.  Last year we looked pretty darn slick with them with our black jerseys.  This year's black jersey has black numbers with a red border so it looks REALLY nice.

Since some of you already have black pants from last year that still work and some of you don't, to make things simple, instead of us placing one online order this year, each player is responsible for getting their own black pants.

Here are some resources for you:

-MERRIAMS:  The Merriams have ONE extra pair available (Size L or XL).  They will bring to practice tonight.  Please contact KIM MERRIAM directly if you are interested in buying them. 801-330-6721. Kim will have the pricing information.

If anyone else has a pair from last year that they can't use PLEASE LET ME KNOW and bring to practice ASAP so another family may be able to use them.

-SPORTS AUTHORITY:  I spoke to the one at Station Park in Farmington and they have a good selection of padded ones that start at $26.

There is currently an online coupon for 20% off that you can print.  Here is the link:
The coupon is good until Saturday so please take advantage of it SOON if you go this route.

ONLINE SOURCE:  Football America (our supplier last year) has them for $15.99 plus shipping.  Depending on your chosen method of delivery, the price is comparable to Sports Authority (with coupon) but with Sports Authority your son can physically try them on.

Free free to do your own shopping.  However, we would like every boy to have theirs by FRIDAY August 15th so we have plenty of time to get team and individual photos done (for our game lanyards).

Thanks for everything you do to help our team be the best!

Jersey Updates

We just got word that our jerseys are probably still a week away.  I spoke to Max Freeman this morning and there was a mistake with some of the jerseys that they had ordered.  They are being fixed now but don't expect them back until next week.  Max assured me that no Bantam or Junior teams will be able to get jerseys early and that they should be distributed fairly.  He also did say that they did order more of the smaller sizes so HOPEFULLY we won't have too many issues this season with jerseys that are too large.

Parent Meeting Tonight, Fundraiser Basket, Jersey Sizes, Black Pants, Weigh In Date....(and a partridge in a pear tree)...

Good afternoon, Football Family,

Just a reminder, there is a parent meeting tonight at 5:45 pm just before practice starts at Washington Elementary.  I'm looking forward to seeing everyone and meeting those of you new to our team this year!

Following is some additional information:

JERSEY SIZES:
  • I am passing around a sheet of paper tonight for you to fill out for JERSEY SIZES.  Please note that we want the jerseys to fit tight (ESPECIALLY for the QBs, RBs, and WRs) so that it will be more difficult for defenders to tackle them (they can slide off easier).  I'm planning to pick up the jerseys this week so I need these sizes ASAP.  I will bring a few jerseys tonight of different sizes to help you decide.  Also please double-check the spelling of your son's last name on this sheet for the embroidery.
BLACK PANTS:
  • Please please please have your son try on his black pants from last year as soon as possible to see if they fit.  If not, another boy on the team may be able to use them.  Bring them to practice this week if they no longer fit and we can see how many boys are still in need of them.
FUNDRAISER BASKET:
  • The picnic and Fundraiser is Saturday, August 16th at Bountiful Park.  We are going to do a FITNESS / SPORTS / WELLNESS basket.  I will be donating free passes and a personal training session from the South Davis Recreation Center.  Items that I would love to be donated for our basket can be anything Fitness / Sports & Rec / Wellness related.
-Ideas:  Yoga mat, kettlebell, weights, iPod, iTunes gift cards, gift cards from Sports Authority or Dick's or Big 5, football, soccer ball, massage gift certificates, etc.

This is the league's only fundraiser so your generosity is greatly appreciated.  Our goal for the basket value is $150.   I will start collecting items tonight up through the Friday before the picnic (8/15).

WEIGH-IN DATE:
  • The weigh-in date is Thursday, August 14 at 6:15 pm. Please have your son there at 5:45 pm.  Location TBD. Your son must weigh 140 lbs or less.  At 141+, he will be an X-Man.
Because weigh-ins are on a Thursday evening, we will NOT have practice that Thursday night but will have it the following SATURDAY, 8/16/14 from 9 am - 11 am.

Thank you so much for your help in getting all of this start-of-season housekeeping done smoothly and quickly!

As always, please contact / text me with ANY questions!

Sunday, August 3, 2014

Hello there, Football Family!

For those of you I have not met yet, my name is Karmel Harper and I am the Team Mom for the 2014 season.  As Team Mom, I will serve as the main liaison between you, the parents, and the coaches.  While every single one of our coaches are always happy and willing to address any questions and concerns you may have, their first priority is getting the boys in top notch shape as individuals and as a team both physically and mentally for every single game.

If there are any administrative concerns and questions not related to the actual game itself (practices, game locations, schedules, snacks, events, fundraisers, uniforms, etc.), I will be happy to address them for you.

However, if there is an issue that can only be addressed by Dave or another coach, please pull them aside privately after practice is over so you don't cut into their practice time.

We are so happy to have most of our team back from last season and we would also like to take this time to welcome our new players:  Joseph Hansen, Christian Berroteran, Ryan Terry, and Tristan Sweet.

In addition to this blog, you will see a link to our Facebook page on the right which was created last season.  If you have not done so already, "friend" this page so you can be added.  The Facebook page is the place to post photos and comments and will also include updates on new blog posts.

IMMEDIATE ITEMS OF NOTE:

-Please click on the link to our Team Roster which is a Google document that has every team member's contact information.  Please review this carefully and make any necessary changes and additions.  You can edit directly on to this document.  This document will also serve as a resource to contact other parents to arrange carpools.

-While I will be sending out emails regularly, the primary mode of immediate communication will be via text message.  Please double check that every cell phone that needs to be included in the group message (like step-parents, etc) is there.

-PRACTICES:  Practices are at Washington Elementary Monday through Friday from 6 PM - 8 PM from now until August 22.  They will move to Tuesday and Thursday from 6 PM - 8 PM and Fridays from 5 PM - 7 PM starting August 25.

PLEASE BE ON TIME to every practice so we can start AND end on time.

IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT EVERY PLAYER PARTICIPATE IN EVERY SINGLE PRACTICE AND GAME.  However, should a conflict or illness arise, please contact a coach or myself as soon as possible.

The coaches and players put a lot of time and commitment into our football season to ensure its success so we request that you plan your trips and vacations after the football season.

-UPCOMING DATES:
  • MONDAY, August 5 (Tomorrow) 5:45 PM:  Please attend a quick parent meeting prior to the start of practice at Washington Elementary.
  • August 16th - Weigh Ins (Tentative Date)
  • August 16th - Brave Lunch & Silent Auction (I will be gathering your donations for our team's auction basket in the next couple of weeks - theme TBD)
  • August 30th - First Game
-We are also a planning a team kick-off party in the next couple of weeks so be on the lookout for those details.

-Once I have the game schedule, I will then create and post a sign-up document on the blog for game snacks (half-time and post game).

-We are looking into another alternative other than SportsFilmz to provide video for each game.  More details on that to follow.

-Black pants:  Like last season, we will have black pants again for the games (in addition to the red that is given with the uniform).  If your son has outgrown his from last season, they will need a new pair.  We are working on getting a reasonable supplier for this.  For those who have outgrown their pants from last season, please let me know as there may be another team member that can use them for this season.

-Jerseys and embroidery information to follow.

The coaches and I are extremely excited for this season.  While our boys are talented and our coaches are fantastic, it is YOU the parents that ultimately help our team be strong and cohesive by getting your son to practices and games, helping out whenever there is a need, and offering support, feedback, and constant communication throughout the season.

If you should have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.  My direct cell phone is 801-721-8665.
